GES Introduced Switch Programmes For All Teachers Starting This Year September

INTRODUCTION OF SWITCH PROGRAMME

Through the College of Distance Education, the University of Cape Coast has
introduced a three-semester programme dubbed “Switch” to teachers in the
Ghana Education Service (GES) to enhance in-service teachers’ professional
development.

The programme will

i. Offer in-service teachers the opportunity to improve their content knowledge;
ii. Provide the opportunity for the in-service teachers to competently teach at all levels
iii. Provide avenues for those teaching subjects other than their majors at the Senior High School level to upgrade their content areas and be more effective; and
iv. Offer teachers growth and developmental opportunities to enable them to pursue further academic programmes related to their content areas

The proposed programmes cover specialization in the following areas;

Bachelor of Education (Arts) with specialization in English, History,

Ghanaian Languages

Bachelor of Education (Mathematics)

Bachelor of Education (Information Technology)

Bachelor of Education (Social Science) with specialization in Economics and Geography

Bachelor of Education (Science) with specialization in Physics, Chemistry and Biology

Bachelor of Education (Social Studies)

Bachelor of Education (Accounting)

Bachelor of Education (Management)

Bachelor of Education (Home Economic with specialization in Food and Nutrition, Clothing and Textiles)

The mode of engagement is a ‘blended mode’, structured to enhance inservice teachers’ 21st – century skills such as presentation, social, technological and communication skills.

The Switch 3.1 programme is intended to start in September, 2023 at selected study centers.

By a copy of this letter, Regional Directors of Education are kindly requested to bring this information to the attention of teachers within their jurisdiction.

Study Centres for the UCC SWITCH Programme

There are currently 10 study centres across all the regional capitals and other centres would be created based on the location of the majority of applicants to ensure the centres are closer to the students.

The study centres are as follows

  1. Kumasi
  2. Accra
  3. Tema
  4. Kasoa
  5. Sefwi Wiaso
  6. Ho
  7. Sunyani
