The West African Examinations Council has announced the precise date for the initial WASSCE paper to be written in Ghana in 2023. The exams in Ghana are scheduled to run from Monday, July 31st to Tuesday, September 26th, 2023, with the first paper to be written on Monday, July 31st, 2023.
The final timetable for the examination will be provided to all schools and made accessible on the WAEC website. Candidates are urged to check with their schools or consult the WAEC website for the accurate timetable. It is advisable for candidates to avoid downloading timetables from unreliable sources.
Has the 2023 WASSCE Registration Portal Been Opened?
Yes, the registration portal for 2023 WASSCE candidates has been officially opened by the West Africa Examinations Council. The registration process will end on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023.
Eligibility
To be eligible to take the WASSCE for School Candidates, students must be in their third and final year of Senior High School. Schools are strictly prohibited from engaging in any activities that promote or advertise the exam through print, electronic, or social media.
Additionally, students must have been enrolled in senior high school from their first year through to their third year and have the necessary continuous assessment records. The grading for the exam comprises 70% external examination score and 30% continuous assessment score. If students transfer from one school to another, they must provide evidence of their continuous assessment records.
It is also important that schools only register students who are bona fide and in their final year. Some reports suggest that some students in public schools transfer to private schools to take the exam due to promises of better grades.
Finally, remedial students who have previously taken the WASSCE (SC) and join some public or accredited private schools in form three for examination purposes only should register for the WASSCE for Private Candidates instead. This exam is specifically designed for remedial students and allows them to register for the subjects they wish to take.
