BASIC SCHOOLS WILL HAVE A FIRST TERM VACATION LASTING FOR 9 DAYS; THE REASON FOR THIS IS EXPLAINED BELOW.

Were you aware that all public basic schools in Ghana will have a first term vacation of only nine days?

The 2023 academic calendar has been arranged so that the academic year concludes on September 15th, 2023, with the original August/September vacation period for basic schools and SHS being reinstated. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020, the academic calendars for all schools, including tertiary institutions, were changed. The Ghana Education Service is working diligently to return to the previous academic calendar. Basic schools will have a brief vacation of just nine days, from Saturday, March 25th, 2023 to Sunday, April 2nd, 2023. The second term will begin on April 3rd, 2023, and continue until June 15th, 2023, with a break from June 16th, 2023, to June 26th, 2023. The third term will begin on June 27th, 2023, and end on September 14th, 2023.

JHS 3 students are advised to prioritize their studies as the BECE approaches. The registration portal for the exam will be open from Monday, March 27th, 2023, until Friday, April 28th, 2023, according to WAEC. Candidates must ensure that their personal information is accurately captured, and that they are registered for the appropriate subjects.

School authorities should register candidates for the appropriate Ghanaian Language and Basic Design Technology options. Candidates with special educational needs will be provided with access arrangements, similar to the WASSCE (SC).

The 2023 BECE will officially begin on Monday, August 7th, 2023, and conclude on Friday, August 11th, 2023. This year’s exams will be administered earlier than in previous years. The West African Examination Council has yet to release an official exam timetable and dates for potential candidates.

Basic schools will go on vacation next week. The date for their reopening has not been announced.

Students following the old curriculum will take their final examination in August 2023 through the BECE. The standard base curriculum will be implemented for the exam from 2024 onwards. As a result, the GES has instructed head teachers not to hold back any students who were in form two at the end of the 2022 academic year, as doing so would put these students at a disadvantage.
