NDC TO DELIVER THE ‘TRUE STATE OF THE NATION’ ADDRESS ON MONDAY

On Monday, March 20, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will deliver their own version of the State of the Nation Address, which they are calling the ‘True State of the Nation Address’. The event will take place at the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA) and will be presented by the NDC Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah. The purpose of this address is to counter the State of the Nation Address delivered by President Akufo-Addo on March 8. The NDC’s National Communications Bureau will heavily focus on the economy and the factors that have led to Ghana’s IMF bailout.

The Minority in Parliament has expressed doubt that Ghana will receive the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) board approval at the end of March 2023, despite the government’s claims. The opposition group explains that the government has not met the financing assurances regarding the bailout, including the board documents. The Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson, pointed out that even the board documents have not been prepared and that Ghana needs China to provide financing assurance, which they have not yet agreed to do. As a result, Ghana will not be able to secure IMF board approval by the end of March.
