The official timetable for the 2023 WASSCE has been released by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) for certain West African nations.
The following nations are comprised: Nigeria, Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. As per their schedule, the exam period for these countries is set to commence on May 8th, 2023 and conclude on June 23rd, 2023, a Friday. What About Ghana
Ghana will be the sole participant in the upcoming West Africa Secondary School Certificate Exams. Typically, Ghana is joined by four other African nations, namely Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Gambia, in writing the WASSCE simultaneously.
The public was informed of this news through a press statement issued by WAEC on Wednesday, March 15th, 2023. According to the statement, the 2023 WASSCE will take place from Monday, July 31st, 2023 to Tuesday, September 26th, 2023.
Ghana has previously conducted exams independently, and this is not the first instance. The reason for this is that the other four countries that are part of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) – Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia – have resumed their usual May/June schedule and have already conducted the WASSCE for their school candidates.
The academic calendars of four countries have been adjusted to align with the May/June examination schedule, while Ghana has adhered to the “new normal” calendar. Despite the delayed exam date, Ghanaian students will still be eligible to compete for the National Distinction Award and the WAEC Excellence Award alongside their counterparts from those nations.
IS THE 2023 WASSCE REGISTRATION OPEN?
The West African Examinations Council has informed all stakeholders that the registration portal for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2023 is now open as of Wednesday, 15th March, 2023. The registration period will end on Wednesday, 19th April, 2023.
