All applicants are required to provide the following information at the back of the large EMS envelope

(a) application reference number

(b) names in full – no abbreviations accepted

c) postal address

(d) first choice programs

(e) application category which should be MATURE.

 

Applicants are advised to read application instructions as well as the contents of the admissions brochure/prospectus very carefully before completing the online application form. They should do well to verify their SSSCE/WASSCE results.  Applications on which APPLICATION REFERENCE NUMBERS are not indicated will not be processed.

 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR MATURE CANDIDATES

 

Applicants seeking admission as Mature Candidates must;

 be, at least,  Twenty-Five (25) years old by 31st May, 2022.  A copy of applicant’s birth certificate issued not less than five (5) years from the day of completing the application form should be enclosed with the application materials.

  have any one of the following:

  • Minimum of Senior High School Certificate
  • Teacher’s Cert. ‘A’
  • NVTI Certificate
  • NABPTEX Certificate

NB. a) Applicants who do not have credit passes in English and Mathematics at either SSSCE/WASSCE or GCE ‘O’ Level would be required to register for and pass special examinations in those subjects after payment of a fee of GHS 60.00 per subject.

b)   All applicants are also required to pay GHS 250.00 to cover cost of examination and preparatory classes fees.

c)   (a) and (b) above will be paid on arrival.

 

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

  Main Papers

  The main examinations for candidates will comprise;

  1. General Paper
  2. Aptitude Test

Special/Practical Papers

  1. Special examinations in Mathematics and English Language for candidates who do not have credit passes at G.C.E. ‘O’ Level (grade 6 or better) or WASSCE/SSSCE (grade C6/D or better).
  2. Practical examinations will be conducted for candidates applying for the Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education (Health, Physical Education & Recreation) programs on a date which will be communicated to successful applicants.

  2. Friday, 1stJuly, 2023            – Special Papers in Mathematics and English

Preparatory Classes

PREPARATORY CLASSES WILL BE RUN FOR ALL APPLICANTS BY THE UNIVERSITY from Monday, 13th June, 2023 to Tuesday, 28th June, 2023 on selected topics to enhance their chances of passing the entrance examination. Applicants are expected to report to campus on Saturday, 11th June, 2023. An orientation programs will be held for all applicants on Sunday, 12th June, 2023 at 3:00 pm prompt in CA Ackah Lecture Theatre 2 (CAALT 2) before the start of the preparatory classes. All applicants are expected to participate in the orientation programs

 

Accommodation

Applicants are encouraged to make their own accommodation arrangements with the Halls of residence (at a subsidized rate of Ten Ghana Cedis per night) at the North campus of the University (New Site) for the period of the preparatory classes and the examinations.

 

Placement of Successful Applicants

Successful applicants will, on admission, be placed at Level 100 of their respective programs of choice.

 

SUBMISSION OF COMPLETED ONLINE APPLICATION FORMS

Copies of completed online application forms (confirmation pages) accompanied by photocopies of results slip(s), birth certificate, payment slips or receipts, transcripts (where applicable) and other relevant documents should be sent by POST and NOT delivered by hand.

Completed online application forms should reach the Director, Directorate of Academic Affairs (DAA), University of Cape Coast not later than Friday, 3rd June, 2023. Applicants are to ensure that copies of the application forms are posted early enough to be received before the deadline for submission as forms received after the deadline will not be processed.

(b)    No additional documents will be accepted after submission of completed application forms.    Applicants are to note that only photocopies of certificates or result slips (not returnable) should accompany completed forms. Original certificates/result slips of applicants offered admission will be inspected before registration.

 

A change of programs after the submission of application form would NOT be entertained.

BASIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Entry requirements for admission into programmes of study for both local and international students include the following:

  1. a)WASSCE/SSSCE:  Applicants should have credit passes in six (6) subjects with overall aggregate of 36/24 at the WASSCE/SSSCE

Three of the six subjects should be in English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies and three must be in relevant electives.

                        For purposes of admission, a credit pass in:

  1. WASSCE means A1 – C6
  2. SSSCE means A – D
  3. b)General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level: Applicants should, in addition to credit passes in five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects (including English and Mathematics), have three (3) passes in the relevant subjects at the Advanced Level.
  4. c)General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE): Applicants should have credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) and three (3) relevant elective subjects.
  5. d)International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE): Applicants should have credit passes in five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects (including English and Mathematics) and three (3) passes in the relevant subjects at the Advanced Level.
  6. e)International Baccalaureate (IB): Applicants should have a minimum of grade 4 at the Higher Level in three (3) subjects relevant to the programme of choice (minimum of grade 5 for Health and Allied Sciences). Applicants should, in addition, have a minimum of grade 4 in English/Literature and Mathematics (SL).
  7. f)American High School Grade 12 Examinations. Applicants should have a Final Grade point of 3.0.

 

 

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (MIDWIFERY)  PROGRAMME FOR THE 2022/2023 ACADEMIC YEAR

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  1. WASSCE/SSSCE: Applicants should have credit passes in six (6) subjects with overall aggregate of 36/24 at the WASSCE/SSSCE

Three of the six subjects should be in English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science and three electives in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Elective Mathematics.

For purposes of admission, a credit pass in:

  1. WASSCE means A1 – C6
  2. SSSCE means A – D

 

Diploma Holders

Midwives with a good Diploma (a GPA of 2.5 or better with at least three (3) years post-qualification working experience will be considered for admission into Level 300 after passing an interview.

Candidates with degree in General Nursing, Diploma in General Nursing/Community Health Nursing with at least three (3) years post-qualification working experience will be considered for admission into Level 200 after passing an interview.

Other professionals with Nursing Certificate (SRN) and Certificates in Midwifery may be admitted into Level 200 after passing an interview.

 

FEE-PAYING APPLICANTS

Fee-paying facilities are available for candidates/applicants who are unable to meet the competitive cut-off points determined by the Joint Admissions Committee.

Applicants who wish to be considered may complete and attach the fee-paying forms (available at the sales centres or downloaded from the university’s admissions portal) to their printed online application forms.  Such candidates shall be required to meet the minimum admission requirements.  Copies of last year’s cut-off points for the various programmes are available at the sales centres and the University’s website for applicants’ guidance.

  1. PRACTICAL EXAMINATIONS FOR B.ED (PHYSICAL EDUCATION) CANDIDATES

SSSCE/WASSCE candidates applying for B.Ed (Physical Education) should hold themselves in readiness for a practical examination.  The date for this examination will be communicated in due course.

 

SUBMISSION OF COPIES OF COMPLETED APPLICATION FORMS

One copy of the completed online application forms with copies of results slips should be sent by POST and NOT delivered by hand.

Copies of the completed online application forms should reach the Director, Directorate of Academic Affairs (DAA), University of Cape Coast not later than Wednesday, 7th September, 2023.

            Applicants are to ensure that application forms are posted early enough to be received before the deadline for submission as forms received after the deadline will not be processed

Applicants are required to provide the following information at the back of the large EMS envelope: (a) application reference number (b) full name (c) postal address (d) first choice program and (e) application category which should be one of the following: SSSCE/WASSCE or Post-Diploma or Post First Degree or OTHER (to be specified by applicant).  Applications on which APPLICATION REFERENCE NUMBERS are not indicated will not be processed.

(ii)        No additional documents will be accepted after submission of completed application forms.  Applicants are to note that only photocopies of certificates or result slips should accompany completed application forms.  Original certificates/result slips of applicants offered admission will be inspected before registration.  The documents accompanying the application forms are not returnable.

(iii)       Persons awaiting 2022 WASSCE results MUST select the “Awaiting Results” option before providing their examination details. Those who already have results SHOULD NOT select the “Awaiting Results” option but rather go ahead to verify their results.

(iv)       Application forms received without Application Reference Numbers, a copy of WASSCE/SSSCE results slip or transcripts, in the case of Post-Diploma and other applicants, will not be processed (this does not apply to awaiting results applicants).

 

A change of programs after the submission of application forms will NOT be allowed.

DISTANCE LEARNING ADMISSIONS

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons, especially basic school teachers, clerks, secretarial and accounting personnel in the civil/public service, commerce and industry, and WASSCE/SSSCE graduates for admission into Distance Learning Programs of the College of Distance Education, University of Cape Coast for the 2023/2023 academic year, via direct entry or through the mature applicants’ route.

3-YEAR DIPLOMA IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION 

Applicants must possess any one of the following:

  1.  WASSCE passes (A1-C6) in five (5) subjects comprising three core subjects including English Language, Integrated Science, Mathematics plus Elective Mathematics and any one of the following subjects: Biology, Physics and Chemistry.
  2. SSSCE passes (A-D) in five (5) subjects comprising three core subjects including English Language and Integrated Science, Mathematics plus Elective Mathematics and any one of the following subjects: Biology, Physics and Chemistry.
  3. General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.) ‘A’ Level with Mathematics and any one of the following subjects: Biology, Physics and Chemistry with grades not lower than D. In addition, they must possess Five (5) credits at G.C.E. ‘O’ Level in Mathematics and English.

 

3-YEAR DIPLOMA IN SCIENCE EDUCATION 

Applicants must possess any one of the following:

  1. WASSCE passes (A1-C6) in five (5) subjects comprising three core subjects including English Language and Integrated Science, Mathematics plus 2 elective science subjects.

Applicants must have a minimum pass grade (i.e. A1-C6) in English Language, Core Mathematics and Social Studies or Integrated Science. Applicants are also required to have a minimum pass grade of (C6) in Accounting and any other two subjects in the following: Business Management, Economics, Elective Mathematics and Principles of Cost Accounting.

 

5-YEAR BACHELOR OF EDUCATION PROGRAMME IN MANAGEMENT 

(B.ED. MANAGEMENT)

Applicants must have a minimum pass grade (i.e. A1-C6) in English Language, Core Mathematics and Social Studies or Integrated Science. Applicants are also required to have a minimum pass grade of (C6) in Business Management and any other two subjects in the following: Accounting, Economics, Elective Mathematics and Principles of Cost Accounting.

 

5-YEAR BACHELOR OF EDUCATION PROGRAMME IN SOCIAL STUDIES 

(B.ED. SOCIAL STUDIES) 

Applicants must have a minimum pass grade (i.e. A1-C6) in English Language, Core Mathematics and Social Studies or Integrated Science. Applicants are also required to have a minimum pass grade of (C6) in Geography and Economicsand any other one pass grade in the following subject: History, Literature in English, French, Christian Religious Education, Islamic Religious Education and any of the Ghanaian Languages.

5-YEAR BACHELOR OF EDUCATION PROGRAMME IN ARTS (B.ED. ARTS)

Applicants must have a minimum pass grade (i.e. A1-C6) in English Language, Core Mathematics and Social Studies or Integrated Science. 5-YEAR BACHELOR OF EDUCATION PROGRAMME IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION (B.ED. JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION) 

Applicants must have a minimum pass grade (i.e. A1-C6) in English Language, Core Mathematics and Social Studies or Integrated Science. Applicants are also required to have a minimum pass grade of (C6) in any three elective subjects.

 

BUSINESS PROGRAMMES – DIRECT ENTRY 

3-YEAR DIPLOMA IN COMMERCE (ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE OPTION) 

Applicants must possess any one of the following (from I-VIII) 

  1. Professional Accountancy Certificate with a minimum of Part 1 of:
    1. Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana),
    2. Chartered Institute of Management Accountants,
    3. Association of Certified Chartered Accountants,
    4. Institute of Bankers,
    5. Ghana Accounting Technicians Examination (GAT) and Accounting Technicians Scheme West Africa (ATSWA).

 

In addition to the above, applicants should possess passes in Mathematics and English. 

  1. WASSCE passes (A1-C6) in five (5) subjects comprising three core subjects including English Language and Mathematics plus 2 elective subjects including Accounting or strong mathematics – related elective.
  2. SSSCE passes (A-D) in five (5) subjects comprising three core subjects including English Language and Mathematics plus 2 elective subjects including Accounting or strong mathematics – related elective.
  3. General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) and RSA Stage II with at least grade D in 5 subjects including Accounting, Business Management, English Language and Mathematics.
  4. Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) and RSA Stage III with passes in three (3) subjects including Financial Accounting and Economics with grades D or better. In addition applicants must possess passes in English and Mathematics with grades C6 in WASSCE, D in SSCE or credit (6) at ‘O’ Level or better.
  5. London Chamber of Commerce (Intermediate) with three passes in subjects including Financial Accounting, Economics and Management. In addition applicants must possess passes in English and Mathematics with grades C6 in WASSCE, D in SSCE or credit (6) at ‘O’ Level or better.
  6. G.C.E. ‘O’ Level with a minimum of 5 credits in 5 subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Financial Accounting.
  7. G.C.E. ‘A’ Level with passes in Two (2) subjects including Accounting with grade not lower than D. In addition, they must possess credits at G.C.E. ‘O’ Level in Mathematics and English. 

 

3-YEAR DIPLOMA IN COMMERCE (MANAGEMENT, HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, MARKETING AND PROCUREMENT & SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT OPTIONS) 

  1. The entry requirements are the same as that of Diploma in Commerce (Accounting and Finance) above except that the subjects should include Commerce, Office Administration/ Practice Business Management and other related disciplines.

2-YEAR BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (ACCOUNTING)

3-YEAR BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (FINANCE) 

The three-year structure for finance program is designed for candidates with little or no background in finance at the Diploma level. These include, but not limited to:

  1. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Marketing
  2. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Management
  3. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Supply Chain Management
  4. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Tourism Management
  5. HND Statistics and Engineering (With Third Class and Pass)
  6. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Secretaryship & Management Studies
  7. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Bilingual Secretaryship and Management
  8. Diploma in Management Studies

The three-year structure for B.Com (Human Resource Management) program is designed for applicants with little or no background in general management but hold a diploma in a related field or discipline. They include but not limited to:

  2. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Marketing
  3. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Supply Chain Management
  4. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Tourism & Hospitality Management.

Holders of any of the under listed qualifications from recognized institutions qualify for this programs;

  1. Diploma in Commerce
  2. Diploma in Procurement and Supply from the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS)
  3. Diploma in Purchasing and Supply from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS)
  4. Diploma in International Freight Forwarding from the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF) and FIATA
  5. Diploma Logistics and Transport from Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT)
  6. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Marketing
  7. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Management
  8. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Secretaryship & Management Studies
  9. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Bilingual Secretaryship and Management
  10. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy
  11. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Tourism & Hospitality Management
  12. Diploma in Business Studies in addition to Four (4) credit passes in WASSCE (A1- C6)/SSSCE (A-D) including English and Mathematics

ENTRY BY MATURE CANDIDATES’ EXAMINATION: 

 

Applicants who do not meet the specified requirements for Direct Entry into the above programs can gain admission to the program when they pass a Mature Entrance

Examination (MEE) to be organized between 13th February 2023 to 5th May 2023 (Saturdays and Sundays only) and 20th April 2023 to 5th May 2023 (Stay-In mode) at selected Study Centers throughout the country. Applicants can choose the weekend mode or the Stay-In mode.

Applicants seeking admission as Mature Candidates must have any one of the following:

  1. Minimum of WASSCE/SSSCE (i.e D7, E8 or E) or G.C.E. ‘O’ Level Certificate
  2. NVTI Certificate
  3. Holders of NABPTEX Certificate or Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) Certificate awarded by the Technical Examination Unit of GES.
  4. Applicants should have a background in the preferred programs.
  5. Applicants should be at least 25 years old by 30th April, 2023. Applicants should attach copies of birth certificates that are at least five years old at the time of the application.
  1. Applicants who do not have credit passes in English and Mathematics at either WASSCE/SSSCE or G.C.E. ‘O’ Level would be required to register for and pass special examinations in those subjects

 

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

The main examinations for candidates will comprise;

  1. General Paper
  2. Aptitude Test

Special Papers 

Special examinations in Mathematics and English Language for candidates who do not have credit passes at G.C.E. ‘O’ Level (grade 6 or better) or WASSCE/SSSCE (grade C6/D or better).

The cost of an Application Form for Direct Admission to the Diploma and Degree programs is Two Hundred and Twenty Five Ghana Cedis (GH¢225.00).

The cost of an Application Form for the Mature Entrance Examination entry into the Diploma and Degree programs is Three Hundred and Five Ghana Cedis (GH¢305.00) which include the cost of Application Form, Tuition and Examination Fee.
