BAYERN MUNICH SACK JULIAN NAGELSMANN, TO BRING IN THOMAS TUCHEL

Sources have confirmed to ESPN’s Julien Laurens that Bayern Munich has fired manager Julian Nagelsmann and is poised to appoint former Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel as his successor. According to these sources, Tuchel is expected to sign a contract with the Bundesliga powerhouse until 2025. It has also been reported that Tuchel has been in talks with Tottenham Hotspur as a potential replacement for under-pressure coach Antonio Conte.

The first to break the news about Bayern’s moves was Fabrizio Romano. Nagelsmann was hired by Bayern in April 2021 to replace Hansi Flick, and he guided them to their tenth consecutive Bundesliga title last season. However, this season, despite reaching the Champions League quarterfinals, Bayern is struggling by their high standards in the domestic competition. They are one point behind Tuchel’s former team Borussia Dortmund in the standings and only four points ahead of third-placed Union Berlin.

On Sunday, Bayern suffered a 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, resulting in Dortmund taking over the top spot in the standings. Thomas Tuchel’s debut game as the new manager of Bayern will be in the upcoming edition of Der Klassiker on April 1st, where he will lead his current team against his former club.

Tuchel had previously left Paris Saint-Germain at the start of 2021 to become the manager of Chelsea. In his first half-season in charge, he guided the Blues to victory in the Champions League. However, he was eventually replaced by Graham Potter early on in the 2022-23 season after Chelsea’s initial struggles.

Looking ahead, Bayern is set to face Manchester City in the Champions League quarterfinals in April.
