In a letter dated April 26th, 2023, the GES strongly denounced this behavior and reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that teacher promotions are based on legitimate assessments. The GES emphasized that teachers can only be promoted after successfully completing the examination administered by the Service. As a result, any payments made to individuals or organizations claiming to be able to manipulate promotion results should be avoided.

Additionally, the GES made it clear in the letter that it will not take responsibility for any payments made to these fraudulent individuals or groups. The letter called on all Regional Directors of Education to ensure that this notice is communicated to all staff who have taken the promotion exam under their jurisdiction.
It’s essential to recognize that fraudulent practices within the education sector can diminish public trust and jeopardize the system’s credibility. Therefore, the GES’s efforts to alert teachers and the public about this scam are commendable.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) needs to take action to investigate and prosecute those responsible for engaging in fraudulent activity related to teacher promotions. Additionally, the GES should create measures to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future. For instance, the GES could establish a direct reporting system for teachers to report suspicious activity related to promotions or other matters.
This could involve creating a hotline or online reporting system where teachers can remain anonymous. The GES should conduct regular audits and reviews of promotion processes to identify any vulnerabilities that could be taken advantage of for fraudulent purposes. Additionally, the GES should ensure that promotion processes are transparent, merit-based, and have clear criteria and guidelines for eligibility and selection.

This could be achieved through developing standardized assessments, such as tests, and other objective measures that determine performance, such as classroom observation, student test scores, and professional development activities. Ultimately, the GES needs to ensure that promotion processes are transparent and free of corruption by taking proactive measures to prevent fraud and create systems that promote transparency and accountability. This will help to restore public trust in the integrity of Ghana’s education system.
