The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) following outstanding arrears has threatened to suspend January 5, 2022, SHS reopening if the central government fails to settle all the debts owed them.
The Heads of Schools after a meeting have given the Ghana Education Service (GES) by December 31, 2021, to pay owed monies and food supplies to schools which include: the 1st Semester Form 1 and 2 recurrent (balance) for 2021.
The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools has demanded the release of fifty per cent of form 3 perishables, Teachers Intervention Money, Staff Motivation, Development Levy and fifty per cent examination levy.
It has also requested for the Management of the National Food and Buffer Stock (NABCO) to make available all outstanding food supplies to various public Senior High Schools before the next academic year commence.
“Chass will inform GES on January 4, 2022, and advise parents not to send their wards to schools on the reporting date of January 5, 2022, as Heads will not be able to administer the running of the schools amidst these challenges.
We pray and hope that the issues enumerated above would be addressed by the end of this year, to avert any unfortunate happenings,” the Conference of Schools stated

In a related development, the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has said the Ministry of Finance (MoF) is working tirelessly to pay all allowances owed to public Colleges of Education teachers in the country.
The Bosomtwe Member of Parliament (MP) assurance comes after the Colleges of Education Teachers Association (CETAG) threatened to embark on an industrial action effective 6th January 2022, over unpaid arrears.
The Association in the release noted it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government on September 24, 2021, after reaching an agreement through negotiation on 2017-2020 Conditions of Service (CoS) for members.

But, unfortunately, the months of October and November 2021 ended without any payments being made to members of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), a situation that has made them frustrated.
“CETAG members are anxiously and patiently waiting for full payments of the agreed allowances (January 2021 to December 2021) at the end of December 2021 without which the Association shall activate its intended strike action
We, therefore, serve notice that CETAG members across all the 46 CoE have resolved to embark on an indefinite strike effective January 6, 2022, if the said payments are not made in full at the end of December 2021,” it said on Monday.

But, Mr Yaw Osei Adutwum speaking on Accra-based Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show monitored by EducationWeb said the Ministry of Finance (MoF) is currently processing the payment of the unpaid allowance due to the College teachers.
“The allowance will be paid in due course, we have signed and submitted a letter to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to process the payment, so we will urge the leadership of CETAG to exercise patience,” the Education Minister noted.
