The Ranking used well-standardised indicators to compare participating universities’ teaching, research, and societal impact in addressing some of the toughest challenges on the African Continent. The data used included results from the first sub-Saharan African survey, which gathered the opinions of more than 20,000 students.
Over 120 universities from 20 African Countries participated in the 2023 edition, but 33 could not even meet the eligibility standards of the renowned ranking agency – Times Higher Education, limiting the number of universities ranked to only 88.
According to the ranking information published on the THE website, the ranking agency independently managed all data collection and calculations, save the ranking development work which it did in consultation with university leaders across sub-Saharan Africa.
