A tragic incident has occurred at Swedru Methodist ‘B’ Basic School, where a 13-year-old student has reportedly lost his life after being subjected to six strokes of a cane by a female teacher.

The Junior High School (JHS) student’s demise occurred in Agona Swedru, located in the Central Region. According to the mother of the deceased, her son was subjected to this punishment due to receiving lower grades. The distressing details were disclosed by the learner’s mother during an interview on Onua FM.
The grieving mother, Beatrice White, holds Madam Millicent accountable for her son’s untimely death, alleging that the six lashes administered by the teacher were the cause. The student’s name has been identified as Godfred Ankomah.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has not yet provided a response to this unfortunate incident. It is important to note that GES has implemented a “no cane” policy, which makes the situation even more concerning for the teacher involved. This incident serves as a somber reminder for educators to reflect on their disciplinary practices
