Update About GES Strike
As the three unions within the Ghana Education Service have declared an indefinite nationwide strike, there has been considerable debate about whether teachers should resume classes tomorrow or not. As of now, here are the current demands that teachers are seeking from the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service.

Additionally, the National Labour Commission has summoned the three national teacher unions to court for their strike, claiming it is irrelevant and urging teachers to return to the classroom. However, based on current information, teachers and students are to stay home until the leaders of all the teacher unions declare the strike over. Therefore, my fellow teachers and students, tomorrow remains a holiday.
Here are the current demands on the table between teachers and the National Labour Commission, Ministry of Education, and the Ghana Education Service:
Review of our expired Collective Bargaining Agreement and our Conditions of Service with the following proposals being tabled for discussion:
a. Continuous Professional Development Allowance (should not be fixed but a percentage of Gross Salary)
b. Deprived Area Allowance
c. Assessment Allowance for Teachers
d. Housing/Rent Allowance
e. Transport/Commuting Allowance
f. Utility Subsidy Allowance
g. Request for proper promotions, placement, and career progression similar to those in the Ghana Police Service, where there are many Commissioners of Police (COPs) but only one appointed as Inspector General of Police (IGP). Hence, our leadership (GNAT, NAGRAT, CCT) is asking for a similar structure where positions can be decoupled from ranks, allowing for multiple Director positions but only one person appointed as Director-General (DG), among other demands.
