TEACHERS WHO DO NOT POSSESS AN ‘INDEXING NUMBER’ ARE PROHIBITED FROM PARTICIPATING IN THE GTLE WRITING PROCESS.
Participation in the teacher licensure examination has been restricted by the National Teaching Council (NTC) to only pre-service teachers who possess an Indexing Number.
According to a blog post from the NTC, the council has implemented a system for indexing qualified teachers, which requires a payment of GHS50.00 per candidate.
As outlined in the NTC’s own publication, indexing involves gathering essential information about potential candidates who are either current students or graduates of education programs in Colleges of Education and Universities. This data is then used to assign unique codes to each candidate, granting them access to the NTC portal.
To initiate the indexing process, the NTC will send SMS messages to trainees’ provided mobile numbers. These messages will contain the trainees’ Name, Code, and a link to the NTC Indexing website. Candidates are required to complete the necessary requirements through the provided link.
To register for their unique indexing numbers, eligible candidates must visit the website https://exams.ntc.gov.gh. The registration deadline is Monday, July 31, 2023, and there will be no extensions beyond this date.
The following individuals qualify for the upcoming Teachers Licensure Examination:
- Diploma in Basic Education (DBE) holders.
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) graduates.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) holders.
- Master of Education (M.Ed) graduates.
Applicants should access exams.ntc.gov.gh to apply online and complete the licensure examination application form. Candidates who completed their studies in 2021 or earlier are eligible to choose a preferred examination center.

Candidates who previously took the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination but were unsuccessful in some papers can register for re-sitting.
Registration fees are as follows:
a) Fresh candidates: GH¢350.00, covering all papers to be written during the examination.
b) Existing candidates with one paper to resit: GH¢150.00.
c) Candidates with two papers to re-sit: GH¢210.00. d) Candidates retaking three papers: GH¢350.00.
Payment can be made through the short code 77251# on all networks. Those choosing to pay through a bank must inform the bank about their candidature status, specifying whether they are fresh students or re-sitting one, two, or three papers.
